By 11:59pm today, New Zealand will be in a complete lockdown as a nation due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Among many other important details for our lives, we will not be able to meet together as a church family for the foreseeable future.
I plan to write a simple devotional each morning on one chapter of Job here on our church blog. I will be “pondering Job in a pandemic”. This isn’t going to be a detailed exegetical study. I’ll aim to focus on one main thought from each chapter. (Similar to what I did many years ago with “Pondering Proverbs as a Parent” but, obviously under very different circumstances.) My main “audience” is firstly myself, then my own family, then our church family. If anyone else stumbles across this and finds anything helpful, praise the Lord.
If you are particularly keen, and we all have a bit more time on our hands at the moment, here are some recommend resources on the book of Job.
- Job the Film by John Piper: Background, Video (this is one of the most helpful things on the book of Job, I have ever seen)
- Christopher Ash: Gospel Coalition article and audio, YouTube teaching series
- RC Sproul: Dust to Glory; Lecture 5, Ecclesiastes, Job, and the Song of Solomon
