Yesterday (Saturday, 18 June 2016) we had the privilege to host a one-day course on Ethics. We had nearly 70 people attend and spent nearly 7 hours thinking carefully about God’s Word and how it applies to our lives and our culture today.
I am especially grateful for all those from Rolleston Baptist Church (and others) who served in a number of ways to make this course possible. Lord willing we will be able to do something like this again in the future.
Here is the description of the course as it was advertised:
We live in a culture and historical era that could almost be defined as “anti-God” and/or “anti-Bible.” One of the areas this is seen most profoundly is in the area of ethics.
Yet, at the same time, it is these areas where we have the most potential for fruitful, gospel engagement. Rarely will a co-worker or friend ask you directly what your view of a verse in the Bible might be, but they will often ask you your opinion on some current social/ethical issue.
How do we engage in these discussions, providing answers that are solidly grounded in Scripture, while directing the other person to the hope of the gospel of Jesus Christ? That is what this course is all about!
In this course we will aim to discuss the following topics:
- Gender & the Image of God
- Biblical Sexuality
- Homosexuality
- Euthanasia
- Abortion
- Reproductive Technologies & Genetics
An overarching theological topic which will be discussed throughout is the historicity of Adam and Eve and the significance of this doctrine for Christian ethics.
You will find a PDF of the notes which were distributed to all those who attended here.
You will find suggestions for further reading and other online resources on this webpage.
